Sub: Wasteful expenditure by change of logo of India Post – reg.
Madam,
This Federation is alarmed to note that while the Department of Posts is struggling to come out of the blues and to become commercially stronger, a decision to replace the logo has been taken to incur a very huge and wasteful expenditure to push us into further net loss over revenue earned in the coming financial year. We feel that we should have learnt appropriate lessons from the criticism being levelled even against financially viable banks spending their money on change of their logos in the recent days.
We do not know how many crores the designer of the logo had charged the Department? Even if the logo was designed at free of cost, we are not aware as to how many crores of rupees will it cost for entertaining this extravaganza. But we can visualise that the expenditure must be very huge taking into account of the largest network we have. To replace the logo in the whole network of more than 1,55,000 Post Offices and thousands of RMS and Administrative Offices from the main entrance of Dak Bhawan to the remotest Post Office in Kanniyakumari, will have to spend enormous funds. The existing logo itself is good and is well popularised already and the new logo is not innovative, but only change of stripes into curves.
On one side even the Arbitration Awards on petty things like increase of OTA Rates are not yet considered for implementation and staffs are forced to work overtime on a meagre and paltry below 16/- per hour since the days of 4th CPC but on the other hand huge expenditure is being made for changing a good existing logo.
We feel we could have waited for a good affordable time to think about such a drain. The expenditure is going to be very costly and the blame for loss and the consequent wrath would fall on the employees once again. This Federation therefore urges upon for dropping the ill-thought out and ill-timed move to change the logo of our department.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,

Dear comrade
am happy that the all india union has raised its concern on the issue
i presume that this is the first time union has interacted with the department on the issue and expressed its view
i just fail to wonder, why, the issue was not taken up much earlier, on which the department would have definitely had a second thought, since there was already hype about the new logo, two-three months back
also, previously after issue of orders for revised logo, the same was stopped for want of orders from the higher ups, just dont know why???? and now all of a sudden, again the logo was launched.
with the views coming from the general members, it can be understood that the the designer of the the logo is very much an outsider and would have charged a fat amount for the task
apart from the financial implication, we are also concerned with the sentiments attached to the logo. v are recognised by the department which has given us everything and every thing, and we are associated with the logo, the first picture that comes to our mind when we think of our department, is the logo
just imagine changing National Flag/National Map of a country with an excuse that it has become obsolete. Is that not stupid?? A National Flag can never become obsolete, right. I just guess what these so called beuracrats think and devise in matters pertaining to such delicate issues.
just recollect that, last year when the department had tried to change the nomenclature of RMS, we had raised our voice and were successful in retaining the exisiting nomenclature.
in the same line, proceed in the regard by chalking out a comprehensive stategy.
but ensure that action is taken immediately, as this is a time sensitive issue.
One more suggestion from my part, can we not seek information under right to information act to actually see, from where and on whose interest the proposal has been materialised and make him/her responsible to bear the additional expenditure just as if an case of loss of articles, where the official at fault is fined.

Comrade,
Once the Caaara Bank Changed their logo and it costed them Rs. 160/- Cr. By changing the logo itself they did not fetch any new business.
It is the attitude and commitment towards the job we do, adopting new management techniques with the changing socio economic scenes of the nation the business could be fetched.
By changing the logo of the Postal Department few might have got the business and few might have benefited much from this.
Though the trade union protest has come very late, it will be appropriate to demonstrate the strong concern over this administrative extravagence.
Dear Comrade prakash - yes the new logo was launched on 23rd September 2008 while we were out of headquarters for NFPE Executive meeting and AIC Postal Accounts and were fully engaged in pay commission related issues at that time - We were distracted that way at that time concentrating about our ACP and other issues discussed in Formal meeting held on 16th September - This logo affair was pointed out by a blogged in his email to NFPE which made us take a closer look into the issue - NFPE HQrs made our own analysis and decided to voice our concerns - Better late than never!
Respected Comrade,
Really, it is too painful to bear with such arbitrary action of the Department in incurring huge expenditure beyond imagination for unnecessary changing of our prestigious logo which has been the pride and glory of the Department of Posts through out years and has remained not only in the blood and soul of its employees but in the hearts of crores of Indian citizens creating a separate status and identity of the Department. It is, in my opinion, just like throwing away one’s old parents forgetting their sacrifice, dedication and struggle they have faced in bringing the child so far and giving him his present identity. It is not only inhumane but unpardonable also. While the administration fails to supply timely the daily requirements of less costly items like carbon papers and pins etc., while the administrations expresses its inability to cane / repair a torn/broken chair and staff are compelled to work in an unhealthy atmosphere, while the rates of FSC, sweeping / gardening / water carrying allowance are not being revised for years together, such extravagance is highly unappreciable and need to be protested at any cost.
Though NFPE has raised the issue little bit late, still it is not too late to restrict further extravagancy. Why don’t you decide at once, in consultation with FNPO and other associations if possible to instruct all circle / divisional / branch secretaries for launching one day-long dharana programme to divert the attention of the administration ? This will certainly compel the administration to think otherwise.
With Revolutionary Greetings.
Comradely yours,
Bruhaspati Samal.

Dear Comrade,
We are perhaps late to respond to this infructuous exercise of change of corporate logo.
Thank god that only logo is changed; not the corporate itself while we were .......!!!. Its high time to intervene in the logo change process if already amount have not been spent as otherwise !!!!!
No individual associated with the Postal Dept appreciates this so called corporate logo change programme!!!!
However let us better be late than never.
