UNI-Apro INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR - THAILAND

NFPE SECRETARY GENERAL ATTENDING

UNI-APRO INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

Dear Comrades,

Accepting the invitation from the UNI-Apro, I am participating in a 5 Days International Seminar in Bangkok and Pattaya in Thailand from 3rd June to 7th June 2008. I am leaving by a midnight flight today and will be out of telephonic contact until 8th June night when I will be back in New Delhi. However comrades can send email on any urgent issue to NFPE, which will be read by me daily.

On 3Rd and 4th the 9th UNI Apro Post & Logistics & APPC Joint Seminar will be in Bangkok; On 5th and 6th the UNI-Apro Post & Logistics / SEWU-THP Joint Seminar in Pattaya; and On 7th the UNI-Apro Post & Logistics ASEAN / South Asian Leaders Meeting will be in Bangkok.

The Seminars on 3rd and 4th in Bangkok include speeches on [1] Introduction on UPU and APPU – International Dimension of Post; [2] Business Excellence  - Business Dimension of Post Changing Scenario of Postal Business; [3] Mail, Parcel & Logistics Management; [4] How to make Post profitable - group discussion; [5] Reforms in Korea Post; and [6] Operational Excellence – Operations Dimensions of post. Each session will be participatory and active. On 5th and 6th there will be Seminar on Post & Logistics for SEWU-THP in Pattaya.

The UNI is an International Organisation whose affiliated trade unions share many common aspirations. This Organisation is functioning with the understanding the membership of these unions is confronted by numerous common challenges including the effects of globalisation on the lives of workers. UNI is aware that the workers – both in the developing countries and in the developed countries – have become the leading victims of the unequal globalization process spearheaded by transnational corporations.

NFPE is an organisation that is consistently fighting the ill effects of globalization and liberalization. Our association and participation in the Seminars organised by the UNI-Apro will go a long way in understanding the common approach on many issues confronted by the postal workers all over the world. This type of interaction between our NFPE and the UNI-Apro affiliates is most welcome as we are under the process of becoming a member affiliate of UNI-Apro. On my return a detailed report about the events would be reported to our membership.

We hope that the Thailand Seminar would open up a closer friendship and association between the NFPE and UNI.
