CONGRATULAIONS TO ALL FOR THE
OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO STRIKE CALL
Dear Comrades! NFPE Headquarters Congratulates the rank and file postal workers for their overwhelming response to the strike call issued by the Confederation of CG Employees and the Postal JCA of NFPE and FNPO. According to preliminary reports reaching us the strike is between 90% and 100% in many circles. NFPE greets all those comrades who ensured that we better our earlier performences. The tremondous response of the Central Government Employees, State Government Employees and Teachers to the One-Day token strike is a clear warning to the UPA Government that the policies of liberalisation like privatisation of pension, Downsizing and also denial of interim relief, non-constitution of Judicial Commission for three lakhs of GDS Employees etc would not be tolerated. The strike is also an eye opener to those CG Employees Organisations who think that strike on these justified issues is unnecessary. Let us forge larger unity to strengthen the forces of struggle for advancement. With struggle Greetings !

we should fight for a judicial committee for GDS instead of the so-called natarajamurthy commitee

Dear Comrade Senthil! It is very nice to see your comments. This type of interaction is much appreciated. You know well that we even went on strike on 30th October 2007 with this demand to scrap the Nataraja Murti Committee and for constitution of a Judicial Committee. We succeeded in our attempt to force the Department to scrap the Committee during April 2007 negotiations. But let us not forget that the cause of GDS has been weakened because of the stand taken by the GDS Union to fight the recognition of the NFPE in different High Courts and utilizing different channels. This had emboldened the Department of Posts to thrust the Nataraja Murti on the GDS. Please see the fact that NFPE is the only Organisation that has not recognized the Nataraja Murti Committee so far and that all other Organisations have submitted their memorandum or reply to Nataraja Murti Committee. You may see in the NFPE web site that we have submitted our Memorandum on the GDS to the 6th Pay Commission only and not to the Officer Committee.
Dear Comrade Ashim, Nice to see your interaction. 14 days strike was not in 1998 but in 2000. The Minister of Communications had made a public speech in Tamilnadu that he would consider ordering the period as leave. Please see the comment of NFPE in the Postal Crusader November issue under Notes of the Month. We have demanded the same through Postal JCA but the GOM and the Group of Secretaries had rejected the demand on the grounds that the strike was declared illegal under ESMA under the directive of Delhi High Court and therefore such a conversion of strike into leave is not possible. The Minister has to reverse that decision only through a Cabinet decision. It is highly doubtful as to whether he could be able to do that under the above background.
With regard to our pay scales we have to wait for another two months or so as the recommendations are expected to be submitted by the Pay Commission before February 2008. The National Executive of Confederation of Central Government Employees, which meets in Bangalore on 9th December 2007 would deliberate on such issues as to what should be the minimum pay scale for a Group D and what type of agitations that can be resorted to if justified pay scales are not recommended by the CPC. Await for the decisions please.
